As a Graphic Designer, I produced visual solutions to the communication needs of our clients, using a mix of creative skills and commercial awareness. This position showcases my imagination, awareness of current fashions in the visual arts, working knowledge of the latest computer packages and my understanding of material costs and time limits, all of which impact the end product or design.
Depending on the medium, styles were selected in conjunction with the client’s requirements. By providing quality visuals, the profit margins of the client would increase as potential customers become more informed or persuaded by the graphics.
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
- Meeting clients to discuss their needs
- Thinking creatively to produce new ideas
- Using innovation to redefine a design brief and meet the constraints of cost, time, and client
- Multi-tasking: I always worked on more than one design brief at a time
- Using a wide range of media, including illustration, photography, and 3d models
- Keeping abreast of developments in IT, particularly design programs
- Working well in a team, with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, website designers and marketing specialists

While serving as a Publishing Coordinator, I was responsible for the production of everything from magazines, newspapers and books, to annual reports, product catalogs, newsletters, journals and everything in between.
While creatively similar to the role of Graphic Designer, the Publishing Coordinator is equally project manager as designer. I relied on my foundation of pre-press and graphic design in modeling the pagination of tabloids, magazines, and many offset printing jobs.
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
- Typography
- Computer Operations
- Multimedia and Online Publishing
- Digital Typesetting
- Page Design
- Jacket Composition

Above, you’ll see an HTML5-friendly Flow Player containing some videos I’ve produced, written, shot, and edited over the years. I’ve certainly produced 10 times that many, but many were lost in the many format evolutions since I started producing.
I would produce video packages including format design, writing of scripts, preparation of storyboards, editing, lighting, sound dubbing, establishing audio levels, designing sets, camera operation and creation of special effects. I also would maintain and adjust a variety of production equipment, including video cameras, tape machines, microphones, television monitors, character generators, modulators and other accessories. I’ve also had to catalog spot storage and stock archives.
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
- Organizing the location/set, props and equipment, accommodation and catering, crew hire and employment contracts
- Tallying the running costs
- Sorting out any issues or conflicts that may arise
The spots in the Youtube gallery below titled: Wings Over; Couch Fun, Lover’s Lane, and Subliminal were contracted to I’Amedia for on-set and on-location production. Their staff made a BTS (Behind The Scenes) video… it shows me at work directing the three shoots. I really thank Lorne and Josh for this.

As a Web Application Developer or Web Designer I was responsible for supporting the company or client’s existing infrastructure as well as developing new technologies. I relied upon my written, interpersonal, and organization abilities. I’m used to working in fast paced environments and I know that flexibility is a necessity when teamed up with project managers, IT managers, and coders.
I am a self-taught “techno-vangelist.” Over the years, I’ve learned a number of programming languages (HTML, Perl, Javascript, Actionscript, PHP, and MySQL). Though I’m not certified in any of them, I have managed to apply them to creating many custom solutions. In 1999, I founded MEEDYA.com, a Web portal promising to provide creative media development and management to small and medium sized businesses. It’s foundational schema was based on IBM’s DB2 and Websphere technologies. Upon presenting the business model to IBM, MEEDYA was awarded a Premier Level Business Partnership.
Though MEEDYA was a casualty of the dot-com crash, it was a valuable learning experience. One lesson I’ve learned is to use Open Source technologies, as site licenses can become quite burdensome. Also, Sun Microsystem’s mantra; “The network is your computer” has become a reality with growing access to “The Cloud.”
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
- Developed new Web applications through packaged and customized applications
- Created a company-wide Intranet, allowing data manipulation for each internal staff member
- Maintained and enhanced existing Web applications and internal systems integration
- Performed completed testing of Web application, engaging users as necessary
- Designed and implemented user-driven templates, databases and interfaces for ease of use

I’ve spent thousands of hours playing video games and always knew it would pay off someday. I recognized early on in my career the impact that interactivity would have on the broader field of communications. Since technology is an integral part of the design, publishing, marketing and sales industries, it made sense that user engagement, metrics, even scoring mechanisms would soon play a larger role. I began studying game design and game theory in 1994, and started out with producing texture files and “skins” for first person shooters.
I learned the graphics and animation packages on-the-job, and created game characters and virtual environments by 1995. I participated in the “mod’ing” of the popular FPS Quake II engine into “Superheroes II.” I created skins with Photoshop, and using Milkshape 3D for modeling, rigging, and animating, created new mesh designs for characters and weapons.
I’ve also used Blender3D and Mixamo for modeling for use in the Torque 3D and Unity3D game engines. Examples of my work with these applications can be seen in my project; “Marooned.” The theme and all of it’s assets, game mechanics, scoring systems are of my design.
Skills, Knowledge, Attributes & Relevant Work Experience
- Drawn character sheets with articulation and motion notes
- Modeled high and low poly count mesh models
- Designed UV map textures
- Laid out level designs and defined spawn points
- Created player HUD (Heads up display) user interface
- Animated key framing movement cycles including; walking, running, crouching, jumping, and dying
- Illustrated 2D sprites for powerups, muzzle-flashes, and explosions
